Board of Trustees

Board of Trustees

Crown Point Christian School is governed by a board of trustees of 9 to 15 members, elected by the association members in an annual meeting each spring. Association members are school supporters who:

  • are committed to biblical, Christ-centered education,

  • are members of an evangelical, biblically-based church,

  • contributed at least 2.5% of one child’s tuition rate within the past year, or pay tuition, or are an employee of the school,

  • are in agreement with and pledge to support CPCS’s Constitution and the school’s mission.

The boards' policies and procedures are subject to CPCS's mission, the Articles of Incorporation, and the Bylaws or Constitution. All that the Board of Trustees is intended to perform must be performed, first and foremost, from a Biblical worldview that complies with the CPCS Statement of Faith and, secondarily, fulfills its mission.

A copy of CPCS’s Bylaws is available to all CPCS Association Members who request a copy in writing to office@crownpointchristian.org.

Each Trustee is elected by the Association in accordance with the Constitution to serve a three-year term beginning in June of the election year in which that Trustee is elected. For each open seat, the Board shall accept nominations from the Association, administration, faculty, staff, and any Board member to be considered by the full Board for election. The Board shall put forward a final slate of candidates for vote to the Association at its annual Association meeting. Current employees of CPCS are not eligible to become a Trustee.

A person qualifies to be nominated and considered by the Board for election if that person is a member of the CPCS Association, as defined by the Constitution, and carries the following characteristics:

  1. Is a dedicated Christian, eager to serve the Lord in his or her calling;

  2. Is exhibiting a life that honors and glorifies God in all aspects;

  3. Expressly agrees to the CPCS Statement of Faith, with the intent and ability to carry out the religious mission of the school by providing support to actively engage in casting vision for CPCS and upholding accountability for its Head of School;

  4. Shows active membership in a church whose teachings align with the CPCS Statement of Faith;

  5. Upholds the purpose of CPCS of educating children at the highest Biblically-based academic level through the divergence of Board vision and operationalization of that vision by its Head of School; and

  6. Exhibits sincere interest in, and commitment to, providing a distinctive faith-nurturing experience of the highest quality through the delivery of the CPCS Mission.

Crown Point Christian School Association, Inc. elects a Board of Trustees. CPCS Trustees act in a fiduciary capacity to CPCS to make decisions for and in the best interest of CPCS. The two primary purposes a Trustee serves to CPCS are 1) casting vision and 2) holding the Head of School accountable.

A board handbook sets forth policies and procedures for the Board of Trustees at CPCS within the adopted CPCS governance model. In essence, the board handbook guides the Board of Trustees to direct, protect, and enable the Head of School as he/she leads, manages, and accomplishes mission delivery aligned with the Board of Trustees’ overall vision.

When appropriately balanced, the role of the Head of School and Boards should complement one another with little overlap as demonstrated in the following:
