Welcome to Crown Point Christian School’s Admissions page. My name is Amanda Zandstra and I am here to help you navigate the steps to become a CPCS family. I also walk alongside current families during their journey. As we partner together to raise children in the knowledge, grace and love of our Lord, Jesus Christ, I am a resource and a friend to you.

Things to know about me: Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I know through faith, by grace, I am saved and I receive the gift of eternal life with Him. Something I surely do not deserve. I married my husband Brett Zandstra in 2010. We are so appreciative of what private Christian education means and what value this foundation brings to a child’s life. Together, we are raising 2 beautiful daughters that are true gifts. Not only am I a member of the fantastic Crown Point Christian School’s Administration team, I am a current parent here. Both my daughters attend CPCS. I saw the love and dedication poured into the daily lives of my children as a supporting parent, but now I see it behind the scenes in an impactful way that excites me. I want to share it with anyone who wants to learn more. More than a decade of my life has been geared towards the education of children either as a Preschool Director, Teacher or Teacher’s Aide, Sunday School teacher, VBS leader, or Awana Director. I am passionate about children hearing the gospel message whether it be at church where I serve, in the home, or at school.

CPCS has been partnering with Christian families in the NWI area to equip young people for a life of Christian service since 1985.

Beginning on September 23 at 7PM CPCS will begin accepting applications from new families for the 2025-26 school year.

Due to the anticipated number of applications expected, the online application may close quickly. Please check here for regular updates.

It is strongly advised to apply at the PreK level. Most families are not able to obtain a seat if they delay the application process further than that.

Priority of enrollment will be given to families applying that have parents who graduated from Crown Point Christian School themselves.

Additional seats will be prioritized and given to families applying with parents who:

Graduated from sister CSI accredited schools like Illiana Christian, Highland Christian, Lansing Christian, Calvin Christian, etc.
Graduated from other Christian schools.
Are new to Christian education.

Timestamp will be considered when needed.

To be considered for enrollment, please follow the application checklist below. Your application will be processed as soon as your application checklist has been completed. We look forward to working with your family throughout this process!

Apply

Step 1: Online Inquiry Form

Complete the Online Inquiry form to communicate your desire to enroll at CPCS and provide your student’s information to our Admissions Director. Our Director of Admissions will review the inquiry and contact you to discuss the process and answer any questions.

Step 2: Apply

Mission-fit families are invited to complete our Online Application. Once submitted, an email is sent to the pastor for his/her referral. Upon receiving the application and the pastor’s reference form, a conference will be arranged

Step 3: Conference & Tour

The conference will take place, allowing the family to meet with our Director of Admissions and one of our administrators. A tour of the campus will take place at this time. Following the conference, a recommendation for admission will be made.

Step 4: Enroll

If admitted, a welcome email will be sent to families with instructions on how to complete the Enrollment Packet. Families will complete the Enrollment Packet which includes the following:

Official birth certificate to be attached to the packet.
Medical (immunization) records to be attached to the packet.
For transfer students, Authorization to Request Records from prior school(s) to be attached to the packet.
Setting up a payment plan where the family indicates how they will pay tuition.

Online Application

At least one parent must be a confessing Christian, who is an active member / regular attender of a Bible-believing, evangelical church and has signed in agreement with the CPCS Statement of Faith

The family must be actively involved in weekly church worship and give evidence of participation in the church’s programs as verified by the Pastor’s signature on the Pastor Reference Form.

Student(s) must have a record of satisfactory academic performance and appropriate school behavior in previously attended schools.

The family must indicate a willingness to meet the school’s financial obligations.

The family must be willing to cooperate with the school according to the policies noted in the CPCS handbook, which will be provided to you during your admissions conference.

Age Requirements

PreKindergarten: Must be 4 years old by August 1, of that school year. Families can request a 2 day (Tu/Th) or 3 day (MWF) program
Kindergarten: Must be 5 years old by August 1, of that school year. Families can request a 4 day (M/Tu/Th/F), 5 day or 5 day Dual Language program.
Grades 1-8: Students must show documentation of successfully passing the previous grade.

What are the benefits of dual language immersion education?

How can I support my child at home if I don’t speak Spanish?

Listen to your child read to you in Spanish. Ask them to explain what they understood from the text to you. Read to your child in English. Choose both fiction and non-fiction texts and aim for at least 20 minutes of reading aloud to your child each day. Introduce English-language word games like crossword puzzles, word searches, Scrabble and Taboo. Ask your child about what they learned in school. Even if they learned it in Spanish, they can still explain it to you in English. If you know the topics that they will be tested over, ask them to explain those topics to you in English as a review. Smile whenever you hear Spanish spoken and make sincere comments to your child about how amazing it is to be bilingual. Research shows that students whose parents have positive attitudes towards the target language do better in immersion programs. Consider creatively including some Spanish in your family time. For example, listen to music in Spanish, when you watch an age-appropriate movie, change the audio to Spanish, visit a hispanic grocery store, or look for a Latino festival to attend. Trust that your child can be successful in immersion education and reach out to your child’s teacher if you need some extra support.
When will my child learn English? Will they be behind?

The focus of our Dual Language Immersion program is additive bilingualism, which means that students add a second language with no cost to their first language since languages are interdependent. Skills that students develop in the second language are available for learning and using in the first language, and vice-versa. For instance, students learn about reading left-to-right, the parts of a book, sentence structure, a paragraph, and mechanics of story and plot; all of these learnings can transfer from one language to another. The pieces of the language that do not transfer are the skills we address in English-specific skills starting in 3rd grade, along with the subject or subjects taught in English in 3rd-5th grade as reinforcement for those skills. Research shows that “the effect of learning a second language on first-language skills has been positive in all studies done…. [and] the loss of instructional time in English has never been shown to have negative effects on the achievement of the first language” (Bournot-Trites & Tellowitz, 2002). In fact, in general immersion students match and often surpass English track students’ performance by 4th or 5th Grade after first-language literacy skills are introduced (Turnbull, Hart & Lapkin, 2000).
How do we know that the program is effective and current?

Crown Point Christian School partners with addalingua, an organization that supports schools in their implementation of dual language programs. We do this to ensure that students are receiving not only enough Spanish, but the right Spanish, at the right time, and assessing student growth in Spanish on a set schedule. Being a partner school also means being part of a professional learning network that follows the same program design as we do. Our partnership allows us to participate in a rigorous and comprehensive professional development sequence and utilize the most up-to-date, relevant research in the field of dual language immersion education.
